Today’s sound bite is something that has become a staple in my cabinets. A “must have in stock” item if you will. CRUSHED TOMATOES!! This fabulous relationship started a few years ago when I was going to make pasta and said to myself “I want to make my own sauce”. That sounded good in my head, but when I said it out loud I was thinking “When the (insert favorite expletive…lol) do I have time to make my own sauce from whole, fresh tomatoes????” Problem is…I don’t have that kind of time. Especially not now with work, school, busines activites, and a 9 month old son! However, I still didn’t want to fool with the likes of my fancy jarred sauces. So…I found a quick solution…crushed tomatoes.
Buying the tomatoes already simmered down would cut out so much time; but, I could still put in my OWN seasoning and the only ingredient in the can is TOMATO! Boiling any pasta of your choice in some nicely salted water…add your favorite protein and voila! So if you have this in your cabinet at all time and any pasta and any meat..the possibilities are endless!!! Bowties and sausage….spaghetti and meatballs…penne and chicken…you name! Try it…I bet you never go back to your jarred friends again!!!
